In traditional viticulture, pruning and grafting are fundamental practices for ensuring the productivity and longevity of the vineyard. In recent decades, however, mechanisation and a focus on short-term efficiency have led to the correct execution of these operations being neglected. This presentation illustrates the results of studies conducted in vineyards that evaluate how the quality of vascular connections – both at the grafting point and in pruning wounds – influences vine development. The data, obtained in the POCTEFA Vites Qualitas and VitRES projects, objectively highlight the need to pay greater attention to these practices in order to improve the plant’s short- and long-term performance.
