However innovative or insightful research may be, its true value is only realised when it is applied in the real world. This presentation will illustrate the approach taken in Australia to bridge the gap between research and commercial application. Practical examples will be presented, including the use of sensors in vineyards to predict the risk of smoke damage, vine varietal crossbreeding, best practices in vineyard management for trunk diseases, and technology that can be applied to grape harvesters to reduce materials other than grapes (MOG).
The presentation will share insights into both the research behind these innovations and the strategies used to make them more accessible, relevant and actionable for businesses.
The lecture reproduced in this video was presented at the 25th edition of Enoforum (Verona, 21–23 May 2025)
