This presentation encapsulates 30 years of research into precision viticulture, highlighting the development and implementation of low-cost IoT devices for monitoring vine growth and health. Key innovations include multi-parameter sensors for assessing vine conditions, identifying environments conducive to pests and diseases, and AI-driven image processing for automatic moth counting and the detection of phenological stages. Furthermore, decision support systems for minimalist irrigation that maintain production levels will be discussed. The discussion extends to remote sensing technologies, including multispectral, thermal and hyperspectral imagery for detecting disease signatures, and the use of Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) to understand soil morphology and spatial variability. The overall aim is to demonstrate how different smart sensing technologies can be integrated to obtain useful information and insights for viticulture.
